Trent Valley Literacy Association's Mission / Vision
The Trent Valley Literacy Association is a non-profit agency formed to help adults in Peterborough city and county to acquire the literacy, numeracy and computer skills needed to live and work successfully in the community.
About Us
TVLA has a small, extremely dedicated staff with the goal of helping adults reach their potential. The environment at TVLA has been described as friendly, relaxed and confidential. The adults that attend TVLA say more than anything TVLA has boosted their confidence. When someone gains confidence, learning increases significantly.
We aim to ensure that all programs and services of our literacy agency are offered using a learner-centered model of delivery by offering an outcomes-based, flexible, supportive and respectful learning environment based on adult learning principles. We work hard to address the barriers to learning faced by adult students and provide a safe learning environment – free from risk, harm and harassment for students, staff and volunteers as per the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act.
We receive funding from the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD)Â for the majority of our programs and rely heavily on the United Way of Peterborough and District and fundraising for support.
