For Our Grandchildren’s Mission / Vision
For Our Grandchildren’s mission is to engage and mobilize our community to take effective action to combat climate change. In relentless pursuit of this mission, we will advocate/enlist support from our local governments and collaborate effectively with like-minded community organizations.
About Us
For Our Grandchildren was founded in 2006 in Toronto by a group of grandparents. Deeply concerned about the inadequate action to prevent the worst effects of the changing climate, its members recognized that these changes would have serious negative consequences on their grandchildren.
In 2010 it was incorporated as a non profit Canadian Corporation with the mission “To Inform, Motivate, and Mobilize” grandparents in Canada about climate change.
In 2018, 4RG relocated its headquarters to Peterborough, Ontario. The scope of the work done by the group has shifted to reflect this. We focus our work in the region, and work to engage members of the public in taking action against the climate crisis. Some of the work we do includes online workshops and guest speakers, marches, political action and accountability, and educational events. We work in tandem with other local organizations such as the local Public Health Unit, First Fridays Art Crawl, and the Kawartha World Issues Centre.
Our structure
We have an Active Board, a Political Action Committee and an Events Committee, that organize local events and projects on climate change. We have about 100 subscribing members, and an definitely can use VOLUNTEERS to assist in specific projects.
Our priorities
1. Prior to the 2025 federal election we are distributing about 3000 pamphlets in Peterborough showing that both household expenses and health concerns are seriously aggravated by the burning of fossil fuels. Included in the pamphlet is a summary of the party platforms on climate change.
2. We have been helping to organize electric vehicle shows in the area.
3. We lobby local politicians on important issues such as the City’s Climate Action Plan 2.0, passed in 2025.
