Organization Summary
Camp Kawartha is an accredited, award-winning, not-for-profit charity offering a broad range of innovative year-round outdoor and environmental programming. There are two sites to choose from for your volunteer experience – the Clear Lake site is in Douro-Dummer Township and the Environment Centre is located on the campus of Trent University.
From September to June CK offers more than 60 curriculum-linked outdoor, leadership, and environmental education programs for Grade K-12 at both locations. Programs are also offered for post-secondary students and there are team-building options for businesses and groups that are designed to foster effective communication and leadership skills. Our Summer Camp program is offered throughout July and August. Campers can come for a day, a week, 2-weeks or more and participate in everything from canoe trips and archery to night hikes and sailing!
A volunteer Board of Directors provide guidance and counsel in support of the vision/mission, and daily operations are managed by year-round professional staff. Volunteers are part of the team and provide a variety of services that enhance and strengthen the mission.

About Us
Over the past decade Camp Kawartha has taken a leadership role in fostering stewardship and environmental awareness. Established in 1921, Camp Kawartha has expanded into a year-round facility, offering day and overnight summer camps for children ages 4-17, curriculum-linked outdoor and environmental education programs for students in Kindergarten to Grade 12, and facility rentals for meetings, workshops, group retreats, and conferences.
Camp Kawartha also offers workshops on environmental education, sustainable living and is working with the entire community to foster stewardship at each and stage of a child’s development. The 190 acre main site on Clear Lake features multiple cabins, Dining Hall/Kitchen, Rotary Hall, and classrooms, plus 5 hiking trails through forests and wetlands. Overnight and day visits are welcome here. In 2007 the Environment Centre, located on the campus of Trent University, was added. It is considered one of Canada’s most sustainable buildings. Day visits are welcome at this site.
