Telephone Volunteer

Telecare Peterborough’s trained volunteers listen with empathy and understanding to worried, overwhelmed lonely and distressed callers. Four training sessions held annually. From time to time, everyone needs to know there’s someone who will be there to listen. You can be that someone who will make a difference. If you’ve ever faced a challenging time in your own life, you know that having someone to talk to can make all the difference in the world. It can be very lonely and difficult if you have no one who is able to listen. Telecare volunteers are available to listen with understanding and without judgement. From time to time, everyone needs to know there’s someone who will be there to listen. You can be that someone who will make a difference.

Community Impact

Telecare Peterborough handles more than 14,000 calls annually. Callers may choose to remain anonymous and the service is confidential. Callers and Volunteers come from all walks of life. Both benefit from the contact with an “in person” telephone call. The intent of Telecare Peterborough is to enhance emotional support and well being.

Volunteer Outcomes

Volunteers report intense personal satisfaction from being able to take time out of their lives to sit with and connect with another individual. They are honoured to receive the confidences of many callers.
