Building for a vibrant future of volunteer spirit in Peterborough

Over the past year, Volunteer Peterborough has offered a lifeline to more than 180 organizations as they seek out and boost the volunteer spirit withing their non-profits. In many cases, we have added leaders to their boards and doers to tackle their long list of tasks.

We do all this as the volunteer sector recovers from the devastating isolation of COVID-19 and the retirement of hundreds of local veteran helpers. With our partners, we are building a new generation of volunteers.

We have operated so far thanks to the generosity of donors who understand the value of this renewal. However, like any cause, we cannot rely on this support indefinitely. After all, many other issues need attention and capital as well.

That’s why we have a vibrant Plan B.

In 2026, we are asking non-profits to invest in memberships with our service. This will keep us operating so we can support them with volunteer fairs, online postings and an overall celebration of the volunteer spirit.

Why we chose members to keep the volunteer spirit going

You may wonder if this is the right choice for organizations that are already stressed and struggling. We thought about this too.

Unfortunately, organizations cannot continue to recruit volunteers by networking within their circles of friends. Since creating Volunteer Peterborough, we have become experts who know what the next generation wants and how to market to their needs.

Volunteers want transparency on what each role and organization will expect and offer them. Therefore, our match-making website fills in those blanks in the exact spot where people come looking for these details.

With this help with the initial recruitment stage, workers at non-profits can use their time to focus on other tasks, such as fundraising, that cannot be outsourced. We have more than 2,222 eager volunteers ready to lend a hand – you just need to get your message in front of them.

We know that finding the right skills from a person interested in your cause takes time. That’s why we recommend the Enhanced Level for about $20 a month. It not only gets five roles in front of a captive audience, but we push the information out to our robust social media networks. You can also ‘pin’ featured listings to stay at the top of the page.

With the Premium Level, you get the same perks, plus unlimited job listings for a year for $500. You also get a booth at our annual Meet Your Match Volunteer Fair as part of your membership. This high-energy event takes place on May 6, 2026 at Peterborough Square. Mark your calendar now!

For smaller groups with limited funds, your listing remains easy to find and respond to.  We suggest an annual fee of $50 which delivers two listings.

Right now, we have our own team of spirited volunteers contacting registered organizations about how they will work with us in the future. Anyone who signs up in the meantime will get a chance to try out the service for free and see how it works for three months.

We will keep current accounts live until March 31. At that time, we will “hide” those details until a membership is purchases. With this support from other non-profits, we will be here for years to come.

We use these funds to keep our website live and functional, plus marketing to reach volunteers for you! We no longer have staff or an office, carrying on completely with volunteer power.
